under the covers
Good morning another happy Wacky Music Wednesday with your host Joshua! I wanted to share a few of my favorite COVERS today. It’s far too often that new(er) bands grab classics and do their best to put a modern spin on them, and all-too-often take a giant dump on the legendary tracks of yesteryear. But we’re not talking about taking dumps today, no we are not! We’re talking about some amazing tracks getting spun in a new fun way!
Doesn’t that sound fun? Classics redone in the synth style, pop songs spun with a goth flavor and more! You’re in store for a treat, so let’s settle in and get our ears ready! ❤️ I promise, no dumps!!
Full disclosure, I’m not actually a huge Beatles fan. I do enjoy a track of theirs from time to time, but I’ve never felt a specific connection to them at all. Fun fact, one of my favorite songs from my childhood (from the theme song of the Wonder Years) was in fact originally a Beatles song. Haha, Joe Cocker’s ‘With a Little Help from My Friends” is a wonderful song as well, but it was originally a classic Beatles song. Yeah, I liked that cover better too 😉
What doesn’t work when covered in 80s synth style?
I absolutely adore Anthony Vincent. This dude is so unbelievably talented, if you don’t follow him or his “10 second songs” series you owe it to yourself to czech it yo! Type 0 would cover a few tracks over the years before Peter Steele’s untimely passing. A sound that’s truly so unique that there is no mistaking the origins… the pain and anguish. A band that made music purely to make you feel more. Anthony does such a wonderful Steele impression that this track made it into my regular rotation after my first listen! Goth Katy Perry!
Take everything you know about the Dolly Parton original and speed it way the heck up! It’s fun, it’s punk! You can skank to this.
Haha, wait, this is Katy Perry too? I actually had no idea. Russkaja puts their own methods to work with a fun polka/ska theme. Every song by them is an experience and always will leave you questioning what the heck they were thinking when they recorded it! I miss ska, I miss just silly orchestrated songs that made you feel like getting off your butt! Russkaja does just that!
I hope you enjoyed a few of these, I absolutely love when someone takes a familiar song and transforms it into something completely of their own. I think it’s fascinating and I love bands when they share their creations with everyone.
I hope you enjoyed this wMw (COVERS EDITION) and have a wonderful rest of your day! I love you all, and remember to continue to enjoy and share music! Everyone is connected through various songs!!
BONUS: Here’s two more incredible covers that everyone should check out!!
DISCLAIMER: Taking a dump on your own time is absolutely fine, matter of fact if you are taking a dump while reading and listening to this, you have my 100% approval!
