an actual goblin!
Try this?
Let the brutal slashings continue as we SLAUGHTER through this haunting October with more MEATY METALS straight from HELL!!.... Or well in this case, TO THE HELL!!
Welcome back to another Wacky Metal Wednesday, I’m Joshua, and even I have to say that today’s offering is scary. Now I’m no foreigner when it comes to brutal blasting metallic beats from the netherwurld, but holy shyte guys… Today is pretty brutal.
We’re getting beheaded with Lorna Shore’s incredible “TO THE HELLFIRE!”
2021’s “...And I Return To Nothingness” put Lorna Shore on the map for showing the metal world just how versatile they can be. From crazy aggressive portions to gorgeous melancholy moments that bring you to a momentary path of ambient zen. This band’s range is out of this world.
The song starts with a melancholic acoustic guitar, which right off the bat, gives me some more enterprise earth vibes (in a good way). That transitions into the electric guitars playing the same melancholic melody, before the vocals come in lo-fi style. It builds up, and explodes into the first verse. I will say that I really dig the melody itself, but the final bar transitions to an almost hopeful/optimistic sounding lick.
We then jump into the bridge, which is chuggy and keeps up the pace, before dropping into a breakdown. One thing that's always been a barrier for me getting fully into Lorna is how disruptive their breakdowns can be to the overall song, but this flows decently.
The song then cuts to another breakdown that feels big, but it's very short, and transitions back into the pre-chorus and chorus. Up until now I haven't said anything about the vocals, and all I will say is that Will Ramos is killing it. Then we cut the dial back to a quieter, acoustic section again, a la the intro - but that nice happy part of the melody I mentioned is turned into a shreddy bar of sweep picking, before jumping into a solo. It's technically amazing whilst also being melodically gorgeous. Love it. After the solo, we get a cut to black, before the big Boi breakdown. I won't spoil anything, but I think anyone who is still listening at this point will shit themselves.
Is this song sung by an actual human or a goblin? Well, check out this “one take” video of the incredible Will Ramos belting out the lyrics for the ENTIRE TRACK in one f’n take!
I hope you dug this week’s brutal af spookity October track! We’ll be back next week with more badass WMW music. I'm your hostess with the mostess- JOE SHUA, and I hope to hear more reactions from you!!
