skynet music
The true horror in music looms in the AI sector… oh yeah, Like, Skynet metal. Yeah, we’re gettin’ skynetted' up in this joint today. Welcome back to an all NEW and exciting non-AI generated edition of the Wacky Music Wednesday with IRL Joshua. Ever wonder what some of your favorite dead lead singers would sound like in 2023? Or if you could hear covers of your favorite songs sung by entirely different groups? Well, let your curiosity shine because the nightmare world of AI procedurally generated music is here!
I’ll be honest, AI generated EVERYTHING always leaves me feeling uneasy. I find it scary knowing how much power we’ve given Artificial Intelligence at this point and maybe it’s time we set it aside before things get out of hand. It’s just music and entertainment right? It should be fine, so let’s just move on. 😉
Some of the most powerful AI creation suites out there are Midjourney Ai, Runway and D-ID. These tools can create entire videos, images, songs, and almost perfectly emulate voices… Yeah, this is fucking nightmarish guys.
Recently an AI generated Maralyn Manson version of “This is Halloween” was released on youtube. It’s actually freak’n great, but also… terrifying because it’s so natural and honestly “REAL” sounding…
In 2021 ‘Good Luck Chuck’ released an all new Nirvana song called “Drowned in the Sun”, using piles of Kurt Cobain’s voice samples and AI generated instruments. I mean, if it’s using all the AI altered sounds from officially released Nirvana live events and studio albums, who’s to say it’s not really just a new Nirvana song?
Where will this all lead to in the end?
Freddy Mercury covering the classic “Toxicity” by System of a Down?
Yeah, I mean- why wouldn’t we want a Queen version after all. How dangerous could this really get?
Megadeth’s ‘Master of Puppets’ anyone?
Metallica covers “Holy Wars”? I mean- why not!?
But what about AI just ‘creating’ music from scratch? Is there even such a thing? Right now we can ask AI to generate a resume, a 24 page thesis on astrology vs. catholicism, and heck even a 40 page screenplay of a film starring Steven Seagal about Ghosts n’ Clones… (I’ve tried all 3, and the results are hilarious). So what happens if someone gives a few queues of style of music and lets the AI just create what it can? Oh, there is a nasty rabbit hole to dig into my friends..
For instance, this procedurally generated AI metal is fantastic background music to enjoy while coding or at study. Honestly, it has moments of PURE bliss… and yeah, it’s completely AI Generated.
And that’s just 10 hours, there are youtube and twitch streams that stream endlessly and have created 1,000s of hours of music. All original, AI generated creations.. Pretty terrifying right?
So what is the moral of the story here? Compositions can be fabricated through 1s and 0s now, just tell a computer program to make a song and after a few minutes you’re all set. What’s next, AI generated comedians? AI generated dating partners? AI generated movies? Oh well. It’s not next, it’s here. Be scared, AI is taking over and there’s likely nothing we can do.
Well, I’m your bippity boppity wacky host, J05HU@ HAPPY WEDNESDAY!!11111
