dive in me
Welcome back to your midweek addiction. It's your Wacky Doom Wednesday!! We're on our great southern turkey day trip this week, and I've had a thick dose of 90s alternative and grunge on XM . Outside of enjoying some family road trip time, I've gone down a radical trip of nostalgia listening to some 90s rock!
One song that came up on our journey was 'Dive' by Nirvana, which just so happens to be one of my favorites by the trio!
I've heard this track 1000 times, but never before did I really analyze it much further than it being a heavy grunge 80s tune, (yeah it was released before Nirvana really took off), however after further examination 'Dive' could fit nicely into the 'Doom' genre. Did Nirvana help pioneer Doom Metal?
No absolutely not, of course not. Cobain wasn't planning to emulate the Sabbath sound in the 80s or spawn legendary acts like Candlemass. He was focused on expressing the infancy of Nirvana's sound, which for all intended purposes was responsible for ushering in alternative rock, which in turn killed glam metal. So screw that noise.
