kristall fågel
Welcome back to WMW- and it’s a NEW YEAR!! We’re going into the blackest days of the year in January. Even if it doesn’t feel like a true winter yet, due to lack of snow- we’re still treading cautiously into the darkness. I’m your Wacky host, Joshua, and here’s this week’s offering.
Check out Vildhjarta’s kristall fågel for the perfect example of how death metal bands can be masterful in their creation of music that is both uplifting and bitterly depressing. The climb of kristall fagel from a punishing opening into what couldn’t be more a breathtaking climax is extremely impressive. I’ve become slightly obsessed with this track and a few others from Vildhjarta.
“Men det som vilar
I det omedvetnas skugga
Kan vi undfly dess vrede
Med vingar av kristall”
Which loosely translates to: That which rests in the shadows of the unconscious.. Can we escape its wrath?
Beautiful lyrics, and somehow even more amazing hearing it in Swiss! SWISH! ❤️ BUT, even more impressive is the INCREDIBLE art-work by Rickard Westman. I mean- OMFG, just look at that lavish cover! So beautiful, so disturbing, the longer you look at it, the more intense it becomes… Seriously, I feel like it could be a magic eye image that you stare at for hours until you’ve really been able to establish what’s going on!
Oh my goodness, just what kind of write up is this? An art show? I say “NAY” just enjoy the track and tell me your thoughts! It’s dark, it’s primordial, and it’s Swiss. What more could you ask for? This has been your Wacky Metal Wednesday hostess; JASH, until next time….
