idea to idea

Good morning fellow musak luver it is I, Josh-wash-squish-squash-bish-bosh-appleslosh!!

It's time again for another Wacky Music Wednesday - results may vary 😉

Today's track is a super suave mix of neo-funk/jazz/soul called 'Jekyll' from Hiatus Kaiyote, and boy does this song reflect it's genre blend in a super ULTRA unique way.

This song seamlessly shifts from idea to idea, bringing whole new textures and moods from contemplative to frantic. The song begins with a cool groove that almost has a swing to it, and then brings up the tempo quickly changing the entire atmosphere of the song. But as quickly as this change starts, it stops, bringing down the pace again. But the vibe is completely different, dropping the sultry softness of the beginning for a dynamic sounds that makes you wanna dance... YOU, not me. It's not that I can't dance- I just would break all of space and time if I attempted to lift my heels off the floor to jam...It's sad really, I wish I wasn't cursed with feet with all big toes, but alas, here we are.

At my *frabit (favorite) point in the song (around halfway through), the flow of the song is difficult to keep track of. Tempo and time signature change almost every bar, making this song an absolute treat to listen to with an attentive ear. Without diving into the lyrics too much, the song really embodies the title, fully taking on the chaotic themes in the story of Jekyll and Hyde. The more you listen, the more this makes sense, which makes this such a fun song!

Thanks for listening to another WMW! I heard this song on my refreshed cache-free Spotify shuffle, and just had to let you know about it 🙂  BTW- did you know you can clear the CACHE on spotify? omfg- it's the best thing ever....  For some reason I have 1000+ songs on my "liked" list, but only ever hear like 100 of them... clear the cache and BOOM, it actually shuffles your songs properly again!

Hope you have the best of Wednesdaze and stay tuned for more exciting musical musings from yours truly!! ❤️

*"Frabit" was how my oldest son said "Favorite" until he was like 19 years old. NO LIE!!

slight exaggeration, he was maybe 5....
