Tides are all the fortifications we need

Yo yo! It's freshly showered Joshua here with a snack-sized Wacky Music Weds... erm Friday for you!

Today's track is a gorgeously doomy song called 'Minoans' from a glorious band called Giant Squid. The song centers around the ancient Minoan society and literally just brags about how cool and badass they were, with a little ocean worship mixed in for a salty texture.

This song incorporates ancient-sounding instruments with an orchestral backing that gives an immense presence to the song, emphasizing the power and strength of the Minoans. On top of this densely beautiful sound is the doom element, which alternates between crushing heaviness and weightless mystery, which gives the song an interesting dynamic flair.

The lyrics are super cool too, describing the relationship between the Minoans and the sea, as well as foreign travelers. They describe the sea as their fortress walls as well as provider of food and luxuries. The first verse of the song:

"Centuries of brine bestow upon us endless power and meat

Tides are all the fortifications we need"

Damn, that's some ocean appreciation if I've ever seen it!

Overall, "Minoans" is an excellently unique ocean-themed doom metal song (literally my favorite doom-subgenre). It, and the rest of the album -especially Thera- are well worth a listen.

I hope you liked this shorter WMW(F) 🙂 I'm excited to get back into writing these, especially getting rid of any writing expectations! Hope you have a great rest of your Fridays me MATEYS!!!
