I think I finally can pin-point the one song that showed me just how deep a tune's chorus can get. Oh, Hai! welcome back to another wacky music yadda yadda- anyway, check out Addicted to Chaos by Megadeth! Have you heard this song before? Most have I suppose, and it's easily forgotten or overlooked in the early 90s metal scene. But holy smokes! This song is far deeper and broader than it has any right to be.
Did you give it a listen yet? Ok, THAT CHORUS!! how many layers does it have? I don't know, and I certainly had no way of processing it when I was (checks notes) frigg'n 14 years old. A majority of kids my age in 1993/94 we all about the grunge era and making fun of glam metal. The Black Album, Nirvana, Marilyn Manson, and White Zombie were all the rage. But what about that plucky thrash band from the late 80s...
What about RAVEN!?! Haha, I mean, what about MEGADETH!? They were this ultra technical step-brother of Metallica/Anthrax/Pantera that always seemed to get the middle child treatment. But seriously, they PEEKED with Youthanasia (And perhaps Countdown to Extinction) in the 90s. The sound is super polished in Youthanasia. To a point where you can practically hear no imperfections.
Now... BACK TO THAT CHORUS!! When I first heard Addicted to Chaos I couldn't believe the depth in which the guitar sounds could make. It was like a wall of sound that hits just as it leaves their finger tips. Everything is on point, and not a single note is played in unison. The bass is somewhere down in support while the bending guitars have a harmony.. man- that harmony. You would have to find a concertina that could pull off such a sound. Everything about this song pulls me back to a simpler time.. Also the lyrics: So fitting!
Who will help me up? Where's the helping hand? Will you turn on me? Is this my final stand?
Well, is it? Alright- enough from me- what are your thoughts? This is justjashmang out!! See you next week!! Same JASHman time, same JASHman day, same JASHman channel!
