Dead Icarus' Zealot!!
We're so close to the end of the year I can smell it!! So let's start talking about the year that was! What an amazing year, seeing live shows and hearing new album releases! The very best stepped up in 2024!! Opeth found their growl, Heavy Devvy became the power nerd and we discovered new and great music together!! Let's talk about my biggest surprise album of the year. DEAD ICARUS' Zealot!!
Zealot came completely out of nowhere. They were one of those random "try this" bands when I just let "today's picks" run on spotify. Man, a LOT of times those tracks/bands they send your way are crap, but this time it hit big time! I've been on a bit of a Dead Icarus kick lately and VERY MUCH so recommend an entire album listen of their 2024 offering. 
The song that I first heard of theirs I've talked about when I first heard it. It was the gateway drug that got me to circle this album release on my calendar. "The Unconquerable" is one of the best metal anthems of the year- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LYJcdZaYWsM
After dozens of listens while lost in the woods I would suggest "Fountains of Death" as the absolute killer track. It has practically EVERYTHING a metal head would want. It contains several nods to some of the greatest acts of all time. A little bit Allegaeon. some Children of Bodom, dashes of DragonForce, mixed with Lorna Shore, and a heavy dose of Soilwork. All wrapped together into a tight little package that's enough original to make it legendary. Tracks like this prove that there is WAY more depth to their work than just a catchy intro riff. So damn good!! 10/10

I suggest good headphones, some solitude and an hour of uninterrupted relaxation to fully appreciate any album, but Zealot genuinely deserves a listen. This has been your weekly JASHY, and I'll see you next time!
