Taking you Huelsbeck
I have never spared you the irritable fact that my first love in music has been from video games. Matter of fact, I'm shocked I've managed to only mention it here and there, rather than EVERY week! I find that the very finest symphonies come with an accompaniment of twitch gameplay and badass boss battles! Gaming composers had a very difficult task during my childhood; that task was to make a game's soundtrack just as memorable as the game itself. What would a Mario or Zelda game be without it's iconic soundtracks?
Exactly, now shush and just enjoy this week's entry as it showcases one of the most talented humans on earth! Mr. Chris Huelskeck had gotten his start in music on the Commodore 64 mostly in European releases of some ultra popular vintage computer ports of such titles as Ghosts 'n Goblins, and the incredible Turrican series!
A quick snippet of the Super Nintendo release of "Super Turrican" and you can feel the quality that went into this soundtrack from the get-go! ST was one of the rare occurrences when an amazing soundtrack was paired with an incredible game!
Those chips and beeps not quite up to your standard? Well, what would you say if an orchestrated arrangement was produced of some of Huelsbeck's greatest game level songs? The WDR Radio Orchestra Cologne and the FILMharmonic Choir under conduction from Arnie Roth, with guest performers Rony Barrak and Jari Salmela joining the orchestra at numerous occasions throughout the night!! Symphonic Shades became the very first video game orchestra concert in history to be broadcast live on radio. It was broadcast in Germany, and is further proof that we live in the WRONG COUNTRY!
Huelsbeck, alongside some of the most amazing music makers on earth like; Yuzo Koshiro, The Follin Bros, and Miki Higashino have owned real-estate inside my head for most of my life, and I don't think that will change anytime soon! I hope you enjoyed jamming with me today and Mr. Heulsbeck! I'm certain we will return sometime VERY soon!! Have a wonderful rest of your Hump day, and behave yourself!!
