Just pick one, and let's go!

Perusing record stores has become one of my favorite afternoon pleasures and we're blessed with two pretty cool shops within a few blocks of each other downtown. Most recently my wife and I went spelunking at a shop called The Norwegian Wood, It's a pretty amazing combination boutique with a radical basement record shop. It's more of a hidden gem than an in-your-face music store, and it's super cool!  99% of the place is used records, so expect to pay anything from a couple bucks an album and up depending on the rarity.

Most of "Gary's Record Room" started by the aforementioned 'Gary's' personal record collection, but it's grown into a legit buy/sell/trade vinyl market that you will fall in love with!!

For today's WMW, I, Joshua will be with you on this musical journey!  I'm going to pick a new album to listen to based PURELY on how cool the record cover art looks. We're going in blind, no idea of what type of music this is, and no idea of what sounds are about to hit our earholes!  So let's go in shall we!?

For $9 and some change, we grabbed a hilarious looking record called "Blunt Mechanic" World Record. The art looks hilarious, the song list is interesting, what's not to love! I'm sure there's some Wacky Music content here, so let's grab it and try it out!

I've ventured through the whole album and I'm excited to announce it's a fun journey!  A dash of indie rock with a dash of distorted guitars. Almost like a stoner Tom Petty mixed with the Black Keys? Yeah? Do you hear it?  I DO DAMMIT!! DAMMIT DONUT!!

'Thrown out at Third' is pretty chill, a blip of everything I mentioned above, most of the album feels that similar vibe throughout, without any of the songs feeling samey either!  That's a solid art, making each tune catchy and standing out from one another!  Then we hit 'Enough" one of the last few tracks. and OMG!!  The slow stoner guitar TOTALLY hits!  It has some crazy similar riffs to a classic/obscure Sega game called 'COMIX ZONE'... Whoa!!  Check out the riffs!!

Stage 1 of Comix Zone

Maybe I'm losing my mind, but wow- super similar pacing and sound. Anywhooooo, what do you think? You like Blunt Mechanic?  I think they're pretty rad!  You should go out to a record store and explore some new music too!  It's a fun afternoon, and who knows, maybe you'll find a cool new band to listen to!

Then again, you could find some crappy band that you'll end up hating too! haha ;)
