This week the six owners of EVERCON gaming convention are going to GENCON in Indianapolis for 4 days of immeasurable fun, like seriously the ENTIRE downtown of Indy goes totally geek for this event. Over 80 THOUSAND people will be attending this year, and we can't wait to feel the total insanity of that many gamers together at the same time! We fill Lucas Oil Stadium, and the Indiana Convention Center with everything you can imagine from the table top gaming world!
I started to compile a playlist of music for the 8 hour road trip, I wanted to find something for an incredible journey, especially with a nerdy twist! We've got D&D, Werewolf, and a BRAJIOLLION board games coming our way! So how about we start with something classical in the Lord of the Rings!? Led Zepplin is a classic band that I rarely talk about on this blog, but today that silence ends! Ramble on is a definitive classic, that I'm sure everyone has heard a million times, but here it is anyway! Is it WACKY? Well, I mean Robert Plant is singing about Golem, which is pretty crazy in it's own right!
What are some good tracks to play when you're about to venture forth into the greatest gaming event of the year? Well, let's take a DIVE in and pull some Le Waq CDs out and play somma dat!
Toe Hider brings just about everything you could ever want to the (gaming) table. They have always been a very comical and unique act with very different styles and genres from album to album. You never know what to expect! Some prog, some folk, maybe 80s glam rock! They do it all, and the tune: "Concerning Lix and Fairs" is the PERFECT example! I dare you to put this on in around any company and watch them dig it!
Bog Wizard, a West Michigan-based band, draws significant inspiration from Dungeons & Dragons and fantasy literature for their music. They describe their sound as a blend of doom, stoner, and sludge metal, incorporating elements like fat riffs and natural "crits" (critical hits in D&D). Their music often features lyrical themes based on fantasy narratives and D&D concepts!! Shapeshifter's been on my mind quite a bit lately as I'm playing through the Turbografx -SCD game with the same name, so this is what you get!!
Gygax the Band, is named after the famous creator of Dungeons and Dragons! Obviously D&D inspired, with some crazy good classic style riffs! Pulling some stylings like classic rock bands while staying fresh and new similar in sorts to something like "The Sword". The band formed in 2015 featured Eric Harris and Bryant Throckmorton, formerly of Gypsyhawk. They released three albums: Critical Hits, 2nd Edition, and High Fantasy. In sucky news, I just found out the band has since disbanded, with the final recordings released in August 2024. :(
One of the most fun films I've ever viewed at GENCON was Gamers 2: Dorkness Rising which is a hilarious indy film about a group of friends that sit around a table and play D&D. It's so much more than that, it's a quotable film, with some crazy situations that always makes me laugh. I love the contrast from the gaming table to the fantasy world the players are creating while playing. I found a pretty cool tribute music video to the movie, that I thought was JUST wacky enough to share here today! Discovering new music together is a blast, and I hope you've enjoyed this entry! Being a nerd is in my blood, and I always want to share the WACKYness with ya'll! I hope you have a BOMBASS day and "roll the dice" on trying out a few fun bands!! I appreciate you!! GAME ON!!
