Northcore?
Welcome back to another wacky of wacky Wednesdays! It is I, your favorite (I SAID FAVORITE!) Wacky hosts, The JASH!! I'm back with something fun and new!
Just wanted to put you onto my latest music obsession: Atlas! They're from Norway and describe their sound as "Northcore". Heavy riffs mixed with soundscape sounds. These guys were pointed out to me by a mate that generally has great taste in new music! And this recommendation is no different!
These guys blend Finnish mythology and poetry with some seriously dark soundscapes and modern metal production. It's a MONSTER combo! Lyrically, they tackle big themes like death, healing, rebirth, and faith, often as a way to honor those who are no longer with us.
Their sound is massive – think heavy rhythms, huge drums, haunting atmospheres, and ominous melodies. Ya know, WALL OF SOUND STUFF!! It all comes together to create music that feels like it's celebrating ancient northern spirits.
Their album UKKO is a perfect example. It’s this cool mix of ancient vibes and the harsh reality of modern life. Honestly, it feels like a total sacrifice to the old Finnish pagan gods when you listen to it. Seriously, give 'em a listen!
