My Identity: Knew Her Gone

I had this cool idea of talking about an incredible compilation CD I had growing up, I picked up Identity II by Century Media during it's release in 1996, I mean, it was literally $3 and STACKED with fairly obscure metal bands, so worst case scenario I got something I would only somewhat enjoy at a great price!  But BEHOLD!!  What would shape my musical interests for the rest of my life was contained within!!

Then as I started writing, I quickly realized I wanted to share more about this cool experiment that I had started to collect!  The Identity CD's were a nearly annual release by Century Media and exposed LEGENDAY acts like Arch Enemy, Iced Earth, Moonspell, Samael, The Gathering, and MUCH MUC more to me!  I had, at most, been exposed to Megadeth, Amorphis, Testament, and Savatage through musical recommendations through my closest friends, but my goodness, the bands included on these compilations are EPIC!!

So this week will be now forever known as WACKY MUSIC WEEK!!  I'm sharing 7 COMPLETE posts within these 7 days!!  Is this the craziest idea ever?  Not really, as I've easily split this post into smaller more consumable bites. So for those with the benefit of hearing, please enjoy today's sampling from the INCREDIBLE "Identity II" CD. It's LOADED with spectacular songs, but this one stands out most to me on this particular day!

Only Living Witness was COMPLETELY new to me the moment I heard this. It was TRACK 1 of this compilation that I'd ever hear. And damn, does it hit hard immediately!  Elements of punk, hard rock, and distorted metal riffs clash with a garage band funky drum sound. I love this track, but admittedly it did remind me a bit of the grunge/alt-rock era of the mid 90s. Regardless, it was a great gate-way song into what was soon to follow!

"Had I known Hell I knew What time was gone when mother left you As with dawn grey skies more See the lies Delilah wore I don't know what the cause I only know what was Hesitation self-loathing Never brought the mountains to the lonely I wanted skies more always skies more I cannot disguise or hide behind the need to know Before me stood the once believed eternal We stayed silent my breath stolen Until my eyes tripped down Their backlit shapes to the flow The water flow that carries them away"

Tune back in tomorrow morning for DAY 2 of Wacky Music WEEK!!
