No Pity for the Majority
Not the most wackiest of moods this week, but regardless (or irregardless depending on which side of the moon you live on), I want to talk about perhaps the greatest band of ALL TIME!! That's right- We're talking KMFDM!! In 2024 a few of my closest loved ones and I FINALLY saw KMFDM for the very first time! Well, it was my very first time, but still the first we all went together and let me tell you it was honestly one of the best live shows I've ever been to!
We saw 3 members of KMFDM live; Sascha Konietzko (vocals, programming, multi-instrumentalist), Lucia Cifarelli (vocals, keyboards), Andee Blacksugar (guitar), Andee Blacksugar as lead guitar, and Andy Selway (drums)! Sascha has been at the forefront of KMFDM since 1984 (That's 41 years as of this writing!) and they still rock harder than any other similar acts!
So what was it that made this show in such a small venue like the Rave in Milwaukee WI so special? It's hard to put my finger on it really. I guess it was just the entire experience as a whole! The crowd was super active, we danced, we moshed (even if we weren't supposed to!!), and sang and laughed the entire night! At the start of the concert, we worked our way up towards the front of the crowd, and we were met by two VERY LARGE Norwegian guys. They stood there with their backs to us and their arms folded.
They weren't security, hell they were BIGGER than the security, and didn't seem to take to our ruckus with dancing and shouting all night. At one point I accidentally bumped into one of them and he looked at me and just shook his head while staring. I was not going to mess around any more.
Well, after a few drinks and an entire kick ass set list, we started to dance and rock out more, and before we knew it the big dudes joined us! One of them looked at me and said "No worry, you're cool with us." Which was such a relief.
If you're new to KMFDM, here are a gaggle of some of my favorite tunes. I first discovered them like many as part of the Mortal Kombat soundtrack (Which is amazing btw!). Juke Joint Jezebel was the gateway drug I needed to grab up as much KMFDM as I could get my grubby mitts on, and dear lord. Was this a gold-mine of amazing techno-metal!! So let's dig in shall we!!
Thank you for divulging in a fun little share for WMW this week! KMFDM was the sound of my later years in high school and I lived and breathed these guys for nearly a decade! We'll be back with something TRULY wacky next week!! You be good!! SMELL YA LATER!
