Epic orchestrated intro, then at about 3 and a half minutes, it becomes nearly "Kansas" like with a curious acoustic climb into some clever lyrics. This EPIC 24-minute progressive metal title track that musically interprets the events and themes of Homer's classic poem The Odyssey.
The song recounts Odysseus's long journey home after the Trojan War, including his encounters with monsters like Circe and the Sirens, the perilous passage between Scylla and Charybdis, his eventual return to Ithaca in disguise, and his eventual victory over the suitors to reclaim his throne. The song is a narrative piece that uses music to tell the story of Odysseus's arduous voyage. Picture it, can you? I can!
The song mentions "false bringers of love" and "floating on a Sea of Lies," representing the alluring but deadly song of the Sirens, which Odysseus resists by being tied to the mast.
An instrumental segment portrays the terrifying choice Odysseus and his crew faced sailing between the multi-headed sea monster Scylla and the deadly whirlpool of Charybdis, which resulted in the loss of his remaining crew.
SX also depicts Odysseus's triumphant return to his home in disguise, and his eventual revelation and victory over the suitors to become the "Champion of Ithaca". The epic poem, and by extension the song, explores the journey as a physical, emotional, and spiritual struggle for Odysseus to return to his home and reclaim his identity.
Do you ever feel the need to triumphantly return home to reclaim what that is yours? Yeah- me too!! Lets do that! I'm out of town today, but when I return home I'm going to lay down my sword and rest my head! I'll start reclaiming tomorrow.. and you should too!!
