Light our path?

WELCOME BACK TO ANOTHER WACKY MUSIC WEDNESDAY!!  Oh dear, was that all caps again? What's going on there, do I not know how to just type like an adult?  I'm not sure I have such powers, my apologies. But hey... NEW AMORPHIS HIT LAST WEEK!!

*ehem* sorry- I couldn't keep that in, my all-time favorite band; Amorphis released Borderland last Thursday, and I've experienced it 4 times from beginning to end!  I kind of let it slip through without much hype this time around, not really sure why- I guess life just gets busy sometimes!

My first listen was actually somewhat of a let-down. I was walking in the woods with the pups and was roughly 4 tracks in and thought nothing really stood out to me. It wasn't until I hit "The Lantern". I literally replayed the song as soon as it ended, texted my buddy and told him how excellent it was! Lantern has such a unique start that has a synthy feel initially and carries with the style that Amorphis is showing off with this album. Now onto the title track itself in “Borderland,” another nicely written song that shows off Tomi’s range and the guitar variety is shown off nicely in particular on this song. Borderland closes off with “Despair” which is a strong way to end an interesting journey listening to this band’s 15th effort. But seriously, I had to replay Lantern AGAIN!

 - "The Lantern" -

Absolutely in love with this tune. There are so many moments that harken back to past iterations of Amorphis. The intro almost seems akin to [GHOST] with dashes of their late 90s/early 2000s Amorphis prog rock style. What a blast to listen to!  If I were you tho, and I'm not, but if you're an Amorphis fan you owe it to yourself to listen to the entire album. There are some extremely strong tracks in the later half of "Borderland" for sure. The intro tracks feel like they take too long to get going, but man- they're growing on me.

For what it's worth, I enjoyed Halo, but this one is easily a better album. The lows are that there are filler tracks that could fit into anything Amorphis has put together over the last 10 years, but the highs are tracks that make up my new aligned top 10 favorite Amorphis songs of all time!!
