AI recommendations?
Welcome back to the coolest and wackiest and Wednesday'est WMW of them all! Happy Turkey Day week!! What brings you to this place today? Was it a link? Was it just by chance? I enjoy streaming music in a pinch, I'm not a fan of paying for it, but the convenience is definitely a bonus. No swapping CDs, scrambling and searching through thousands of MP3s. It's just easier. and over the last few years of using Spotify I've amassed nearly 2000 favorite tracks on my "likes" list, and have a few specific playlists depending on my mood. Whether it's feeling ambition, chill vibes, gaming music, etc etc, there are tons of tracks I've compiled together.
But one thing I haven't really done. - Trusting the algorithm. - I HATE THAT GUY!! There are images that pop up each time I open up Spotify saying "Here's your daily hits! based on your likes/plays". I almost always scoff at it and scroll to my lists and just listen to music. But... what about the tracks they recommend based on my interests? Why not just hit play on it and see what it gives me? Aww heck, let's do it!
I let it go for 5 tracks, and here they are: Would they be unique? Would they be classics? OR would it just be something all the way from left field? Regardless, I'll mark them as *SKIP* or *ADDED*. HERE WE GO!!
Ok, so first off- NO WAY was Seek and Destroy not ALREADY in my "likes" list, but omfg- it wasn't! I can't even believe that! It's a classic, I love 80s 'Tallica, no problems with this one. Classic head banger, and absolutely was missing from my list. *ADDED*
Whoa whoa WHOA!! Ozzy and Elton John made a song together over COVID 2020? How have I not heard this at all!!? This is insane, and I love it! Now, I've only listened to it twice since this moment, (likely more as of this reading), but my goodness. It makes me miss Ozzy even more now. Lovely ballad from two of the biggest legends on earth. Lovely! *ADDED*
Freak'n brilliant MASTODON added to the mix!! A tune from 2014's "Once more 'round the Sun" and guess what. ANOTHER BANGER!! I've not listened to this one, somehow it has slipped through the cracks. I have 2 Mastodon albums on vinyl, but not this 2014 release. I have 'Leviathan' and 'Hushed & Grim'. I absolutely love this crunchy release with glorious balance between blasting bass/power metal with classic riffs. Damnit, Spotify is winning! Another *ADDED*
Ok, what magic is this? Another *ADDED* pretty much right out of the gate! I love the pacing, the chiptunes intro. It's short and sweet, and just easily fits in with a cozy head bopp'n vibe perfect for the workday or just going for a drive. I love the overall vibe, and now I've put Miracle Musical on my shortlist of artists to dive deeper into!
*ADDED* *ADDED*!!! AHHH! Omg!! Casualties of Cool is a BLUEGRASS ALBUM RECORDED BY Devin Townsend and Ché Aimee Dorval!! How did this pass me by without me obsessing over it! It came out in 2014, so it's been over a decade! It's not rare that Devin goes outside of his usual avenues to contribute work to others, but this project is very different, while somehow being the same. He lists it as a "country album" but it's more organic and ambient. Beautiful even! WOW!!
Sometimes it's cool to hit "shuffle" on your life and just see where things lead. Let go, take a trip. Put on sunglasses at night! You never know where you'll end up!! Tune in for another WMW as we head into the crazy shiny tree event later in December!
