MegaDave has left the building!

Original idea here- Let's RANK ALL 16 of MEGADETH's Albums!

With Megadeth's 17th (AND FINAL?) album being released on January 23rd I figured it was a fun (and dumb) idea to rank all of the albums that came prior. Enlisting this idea from Angry Metal Guy's website, and ranking them here!  These are meant to be short, but sweet, and just for fun, so please feel free to BLAM THE EVER LIVING SHIT OUT OF ME after reading, I don't care!! With that being said, here listen to Dave's rendition of his song (and Metallica's) Ride the Lightning!!

Joshua's OFFICIAL rankings of Megadeth's albums!!

#16- Super Collider (2013): Fucking unoriginal trash, NOT THRASH. I was so sad to hear this album, it just does nothing for me. Not one track stands out. It was as autogenerated generic rock riffs as I've ever heard. I thought it was over after this!

#15- Th13teen (2011): I think there is a pattern here with 'Deth and their releases. This one, much like Collider, just felt phoned in. Nothing original, nothing to note. No bangers... Just blech... couldn't care less to ever listen to again.

#14- The Sick, The Dying, and the Dead (2022): I was into it for about a week, and the track “We’ll Be Back” is a certified banger! Overall, it was a step down a bit from Dystopia, which I loved!  Not bad, not great, worth a listen IMO.

#13-  Killing Is My Business.. and Business Is Good! (1985): It's the VERY FIRST 'Deth album. Totally raw emotions and trashy as hell. I enjoyed it, and still do. It's a great listen just to bang your head and hate on the rules the system has in place for you!  Not as technical as Dave would get in the coming 10 years, but still a good listen

#12- Risk (1999): Hahha!!  HERE IT IS!!  I bet you were wondering where on earth would I put good ol' "Risk".. ah damnit, I wish I could put it higher honestly. It's terrible, let's get that out of the way, so many silly riffs and Megadeth-lite versions of everything Dave built up to this point. It would take him forever to earn that thrash reputation back.. But damnit, I just can't deny my love for tracks like 'Wanderlust', 'Insomnia', and even 'Breadline'. It's so blatant that Dave was chasing his dream of universal rock at this point, but it didn't matter to me. Still an album I return to every so often... Maybe just to punish myself, but at least it has character, unlike any of albums 14-16 on my list. :)

#11- The World Needs a Hero (2001): A yes... How on earth does Megadeth recover from Risk?  Well, they push everything they could possibly muster to seem edgy again. With Nu-Metal and harsh riffs returning to the mainstream, Dave's like- Well.. ME TOO, I CAN DO THAT!! Remember the 90s?  It's sadly comes across a little too little too late. Still a step up from Risk, but just barely.

#10 So far so good... So What? (1988): Somehow between Peace Sells and Rust, Dave mustered this one. I don't know what it is about it, but nothing really clicks with me on this one. I mean, it's angsty and aggressive, but outside of 'In My Darkest Hour' it's a pretty skippable album!

#9 Cryptic Writings (1997): The first Megadeth sellout album. Hmm, how to describe my emotions the first time I heard this one?  Well, at first I was like... oh, it's not bad at all!!  Then I was like, where are the crunchy riffs and the epic choruses? It's like Megadeth's "BLACK ALBUM" and.. for me, that's NOT a good thing. blah. Still, after re-listening to it recently, it definitely sits somewhere in the middle of the Megadeth discography! 'Disintegrators' still rules!!

#8 The System has Failed (2004): System is almost always the forgotten album!  Somewhere in the middle basically forever. It's damn underrated, with a few seriously awesome tracks like 'Die Dead Enough' to 'Back in the Day'. It's edgy, fun, and full of awesome songs. I think it's a great rebuild of Megadeth that leads nicely into United Abominations!

#7 United Abominations (2007): I liked the remake of  “À Tout le Monde" enough to have made it my officially favorite recording of said track!  With that being said there are 4 or 5 awesome tracks on this album, with a few stinkers for sure, but man I could always go for some 'Washington is Next!'

#6 Dystopia (2016): How this album came out as good as it did is still a wonder. Slammed perfectly between 3 of Dave's WORST works, good ol' Dys gets forgotten often. I think part of me loved it so much just because it was SO much better than Collider.. I dunno, but after a recent listen, it still slams. Check out the title track. It's hard to dislike it.

#5- Endgame (2009): Easily the best post 90's Megadeth available. It's still as complete an album Dave could write at his ripe old ass age. It has no real weak tracks, and continues with brilliant transitions and hooks throughout. An anomaly of sorts, but hey it was clear they still had some gas left in the tank.

#4- Peace Sells… but Who’s Buying? (1986): '86 is when trash metal took charge in the metal world and Megadeth's 2nd foray into the world solidified them as a national treasure. Dave's lyrics would only get more politically charged later in his life, but whatever at least he's not crying about being dropped my Lars and James anymore.... or is he? "The Conjuring" (which would later be turned into a movie franchise!) and 'Devils Island' are amazing tracks!

#3- Rust in Peace (1990): "Holy Wars"  JUST LISTEN TO IT!  The whole album is full of bangers, that I certainly came to about 4 years late, but I made sure to add this to my Megadeth discography collection after my first listen!

#2- Countdown to Extinction (1992) First time hearing 'Symphony of Destruction' and omfg! Dude, this album is magic, and totally cured me of my "Metallica is better than anything" teen years.

#1- Youthanasia (1994): My introduction to Megadeth, and holy crap I couldn't imagine a better way to experience this thrash metally magic!!  I will always hold this and Countdown up as the best 1-2-3 punch in back to back to back albums I've ever heard. It's in my top 5 albums of all times, and I just love the ultra punchy riffs and instant classic chorus'. From beginning to end, an absolute 10/10 for me.

I hope you agree with EACH and EVERY part of my list!!  YOU DON'T?? That's fine, let me know where you rank and how you rank each one?   If you enjoyed this, let me know which band I should rank next! ;) Love you, peace and hair grease!!
