This is SPORTSCENTER!!
Puberty is weird, right? Like- all of the sudden my interests shifted. Got hair in weird places. Voice starts sounding crazy. And other parts of my body looked different. The world went crazy! Or did it? I don't know, but let's get wacky anyway!! Did I ever tell you the story about how my older sisters convinced me that I was getting my period after we had beets for dinner? Yeah, older siblings suck! AND- what sucks even more was that my parents thought it was hilarious to go with the joke! Yeah, (for those that don't know) when you eat beets, your pee turns red later that day. Hahaha!! how funny!!
Well, what in the sam-hill does this have to do with Sportscenter? Well, I was just getting to that. You see, around my early teen years, I slowly shifted my interests to sports. I was starting to watch football on Sundays, I followed the local sports teams and just in general enjoyed feeling included in the conversation.
By those awful teen years in middle school, classmates weren't talking about video games and cartoons (The cool standouts (AKA the real ones) still loved 'em), as often anymore, and instead it became cool to talk about sports. So in order to keep up on the daily news of the sporting world, I started watching ESPN Sportscenter each morning before school.
The sports casters, anchors, and of course, the music! A massive part of each morning was listening to the background music while the sporting news was discussed. You'd get all the prior evenings scores, results, playoff race info and interviews with players! What more could a sports nut want? I started to become addicted to watching each morning, and honestly- I think it was these sports analysis and stats info presented on these shows that got me into data analyst work. I love nerdy stats and data. So it's fitting really!
Regardless, the music in this post make my heart happy and a nice dose of nostalgia! Did you enjoy sportscenter? Do you enjoy these tunes? You ever heard them before? Or should I just shhhh so you can continue enjoying your very own wacky music wednesday? Well, whatever your thoughts are, I probably won't listen... haha! Happy Weds, and I'll see you back here NEXT week!!
