Rats!

 

Last week let in a flood of emotion, I mean really!  My hometown baseball team won a championship (Ok, I'm not from Milwaukee, but with how much baseball my Pops watched as I grew up, you'd think we did!) My book released on October 29th!  AND it was Halloween weekend!! I love when Halloween falls on a weekend, no rushing kids from school to go to the asinine early hours of trick or treating (which is usually 4pm-7pm around these parts)!  It's just a much more enjoyable experience all around! Our kids decided to go grab all the candy they could in a blitz of sugars and treats that will live on in our memories forever!

Welcome back to an awesome edition of WMW that features a pretty rad discovery of an awesome band that's NEW TO ME! Castle Rat!

Last month I was lucky enough to run into my good friend Brooke and we decided to grab coffee and dig for some fun music at our local vinyl shop- Inner Sleeve! 

I've seen a few images for this band pop up in various places like Spotify and Youtube, but never really took the plunge in to listen to them in a focused playthrough. That was.. UNTIL NOW!

Castle Rat is a Brooklyn-based fantasy doom metal band fronted by "The Rat Queen" and my goodness, their style harkens to styles not too dissimilar to bands like "The Sword". Kind of like classic metal, with a vintage sound, but new!

Their debut self-titled album blends the twin-guitar gallop of NWOBHM with the slow, fuzz-drenched sludge of Black Sabbath and Electric Wizard, paired with medieval lore, swords, and stage theatrics. Highlights include the tracks "Dagger Drifter" and "Cry For Me."

Just what the hell is NWOBHM? No it's not nWo Big Hippie Metal, it's New wave of British heavy metal!

With all that's going on in this world, it's good to have a slight glimmer of hope with both what we're thinking with our minds, what we're seeing with our eyes, and what we're fortunate enough to hear with our earholes! Castle Rat is pretty rad and you should check them out!!  UNTIL NEXT TIME KIDS!
