timelessness
Welcome to another Wacky Metal Wednesday, with your host Joshua! This week we're taking a walk back to highschool with me... (Which was like 400 years ago).. but really just 27 in this current pointless vessel.
Fear Factory have been known for slashing out banger after banger for several decades, but what most people don't realize is that even with an incredible burst in popularity during their illustrious careers, Mr. Burton Bell pummeled out some of the most incredible lyrics and vocal recordings I had ever heard.
Fear Factory formed in 1989, and up until 2020, Bell was their lead singer. Their style was unmistakable. I can honestly say they were the 90s/2000s masters of the build and payoff for working towards the perfect chorus. I think Bell's misdirection with his vocals always drew me closer to their sound overall.
The lyrics as seen in today's example "Timelessness" have so much to say, and you can interpret it in your own way.
"You've got to put your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels, upon the levers, upon all the apparatus -- and you've got to make it stop!
And you've got to indicate to the people who run it, to the people who own it -- that unless you're free the machine will be prevented from working at all!"
I love songs that give you a decent surprise throughout the journey, and this one is a perfect example. There are moments where it almost sounds like they've gone out of tune, or play the wrong note, but when you put it all together, it matches exactly how life is. You have valleys and obstacles thrown your way. You must overcome them, and continue to grow. We're all works of progress. Or are we all part of the machine?
